Screening Assessment for Dyslexia
A Dyslexia Screening is a shorter assessment for children aged 7-14. It will take 1.5 - 2 hours and include a range of assessment tasks which explore reading, writing and spelling skills as well as some aspects of cognitive processing, e.g., memory and phonological awareness.
The purpose of a dyslexia screener is to identify students who are experiencing difficulties known to be associated with dyslexia. Although a good starting point, it is important to note a screener is not a full diagnostic assessment and cannot be used for an application for Disabled Student Allowance.
Following the screening, a short confidential report outlining the results and key recommendations for support will be completed and emailed within 10 working days.
Full Diagnostic Assessment for Dyslexia
A Dyslexia Diagnostic Assessment for children (age 7 plus) and adults consists of a full range of tasks to assess underlying ability, spelling, writing, reading and comprehension, along with a range of underpinning tests to assess working memory, speed of processing and phonological awareness.
The assessment session can take up to 3 hours. Following the assessment session, a detailed report will be completed and emailed within 15 working days.
The report will include an overview which summarises the child or adult's cognitive profile, their strengths and the impact any cognitive difficulties may have on their learning. It will include a diagnosis of dyslexia if this is supported by the assessment. The remainder of the report includes a summary of the background information provided by home and school, an interpretation of test results and observations and detailed recommendations for support.
